"Be willing to be uncomfortable. Be comfortable being uncomfortable. It may get tough,
but it's a small price to pay for living a dream."
— Peter McWilliams
Last week we talked about the “Bea Attitude” of kindness (click here if you missed it).
This week I want to talk about another “Bea Attitude.”
Be Willing.
We live in a world where sadly many people aren’t willing to show up and be their best.
Back in the day, the formula for success was to show up, show out and make a difference.
Now, just showing up sets you apart.
How sad.
We talk about disruption, differentiation, and transformation.
Maybe we should be talking about the basics.
Do what you said you would do.
When you said you would do it.
The way you said you would.
That would be transformational.
Wouldn’t it?
Revolutionary in fact.
Own the fundamentals.
Master the moment you are in.
Be where you’re at.
My dad taught me that in order to win you have to outwork the competition.
They may be smarter.
They may be faster.
They may have more resources.
But if they can’t outwork you, they can’t beat you.
And today, you don’t have to do much to outwork your competition.
But you have to be willing.
That’s non-negotiable.
You have to be willing to do whatever it takes to win.
Life will rarely ask you to do whatever it takes.
But being willing is the secret to good fortune and great living.
This week, are you willing to show up?
Are you willing to risk the unusual to be extraordinary?
Are you willing to be the difference?
Where you are?
Right now?
If you are, congratulations.
Greatness awaits you.
If not.
Step aside.
Your competition is passing you by.

I was blessed to have a great corporate career. I came from the franchise world, and the last 20 years of my career I was in disaster restoration. A good fit for someone who had created many disasters and was in need of restoration. And redemption. I worked my way to the c-suite in a […]
After a short hiatus, I’m back this week with another installment in our series on winning. Back in the day, I was a little league baseballer. I played shortstop. And I was good too. They called me “hoover” because I could vacuum up any ball hit my way. I was also good with the bat. […]
No matter how successful or accomplished you are, there is always another level. In business. In sports. In life. Your big, crazy, monster goal is someone else’s minimum standard to play the game. You make a million this year. Others might say that was a good month. Make a billion. Then there’s Elon, Bezos, and […]
