The “BEA” Attitude of Kindness

“Kindness is the most underrated superpower on the planet. And in today’s world, it is a competitive advantage.”

— Kevin D. Brown

If you know our story, you might remember a certain pancake maker who works at the “happiest place on earth.”

Her name is Bea.

To us, she is affectionately known as “Aunt Bea.”

Aunt Bea created an exceptional experience for my family a decade and a half ago that changed the trajectory of our lives forever.

She made apple pancakes for our son who has a lot of dietary restrictions.

Not only did she make his kind of apple pancakes, but this remarkable human took on the task of sourcing all the ingredients which she did not have readily available and were not easy to find back then.

A simple gesture of kindness to serve our son in a special way.

To make life better for the Brown family.

And leave us wanting more.

We’ve had many encounters with Aunt Bea since that day long ago when a nine-year-old boy with autism smiled brighter than he ever had before.

We live in Orlando, Florida because of that one moment in time. And that little boy is now a 25-year-old young man who is a guest at the house of the mouse at least once a week.

When I reflect on our first encounter with our friend there are so many “Bea Attitudes” that stand out.

I will share more in future articles.

But what I remember the most is that she led with kindness, compassion, and humility.

Quite intentional. Not random.

Kindness has the power to transform your business, your relationships, and the level of happiness you experience in life.

Or don’t.

Kindness costs nothing. It requires no more effort than you are going to expend in the first place.

In fact, maybe less.

It takes far less energy to be kind than to be an angry, annoyed, and frustrated person.

It is a healthier way to live and reaps benefits far beyond the bottom line.

Kindness is like a muscle, the more you use it, the stronger you get.

It requires intention and awareness.

I want to encourage you this week to unleash the power of kindness in your life.

At work and at home.

Be willing.

Be intentional.

Be like Bea.
