When our son Josh was little, we were going on our first “big trip” as a family.
We were headed to Hawaii.
I was going for work.
My bride and Josh were going for fun.
As it should be.
The first leg was Nashville to Los Angeles.
As the 757 took flight we quickly found ourselves among the clouds.
It was dark.
And bumpy.
Josh, seated between us grabbed his mama’s hand, then mine.
He gave us both a squeeze.
He leaned my way and said, “Dad, are there bumpy roads in heaven?”
The innocence of our little guy’s question made me laugh.
I whispered back to him, “No, but it can be a little bumpy getting there.”
Friends, we will go through some clouds as we ascend to new heights and reach for the stars.
We are going to experience turbulence.
Life is bumpy.
And messy.
And beautiful.
You see, above the clouds, things smooth out.
Clouds give way to clear skies and sunshine.
And, just like that 757, you were built to weather the ascent.
You were designed to handle the bumps and rough patches.
You have everything you need to break through the darkness and find clear skies waiting for you.
You are closer than you think to smooth air. Just ahead is everything you’ve been working toward.
Now buckle up.
It’s going to be an amazing flight.
Keep soaring.

I was blessed to have a great corporate career. I came from the franchise world, and the last 20 years of my career I was in disaster restoration. A good fit for someone who had created many disasters and was in need of restoration. And redemption. I worked my way to the c-suite in a […]
After a short hiatus, I’m back this week with another installment in our series on winning. Back in the day, I was a little league baseballer. I played shortstop. And I was good too. They called me “hoover” because I could vacuum up any ball hit my way. I was also good with the bat. […]
No matter how successful or accomplished you are, there is always another level. In business. In sports. In life. Your big, crazy, monster goal is someone else’s minimum standard to play the game. You make a million this year. Others might say that was a good month. Make a billion. Then there’s Elon, Bezos, and […]
